As you explore the world, you may come across poles like this. They are Peace Poles - with the message "May Peace Prevail on Earth" written in several languages. They are pleasant reminders for everybody.
The Naples Botanical Garden was developed to showcase plants and cultures between the 26th latitudes, which is a mostly tropical region of earth. It aims to educate visitors about "plants and their gifts to us of beauty, tranquility, sustenance, and well-being." And to inspire everyone to "become stewards of the environment."
This pole is focused specifically on the 26th parallel north, the languages on the pole being spoken by people living on that line. They are Arabic, Bengali, Chinese, English, Hawaiian, Hindi, Japanese and Spanish. There is also a small brass plate in Braille.
Peace Poles are visible reminders for all of us to reflect upon the message of Peace on Earth wherever we may be.
