Weekly Gem #66 Bowling Green San Francisco
Published 4/9/2016
Location: This 'hidden gem' is located on Bowling Green Drive, in Golden Gate Park, San Francisco, CA (see Clue Me! Map). While not a traditional tourist 'destination,' this is a very nice spot to sit for a short while, and if you happen to do so when a match is underway, you'll quickly become hooked on lawn bowling.
One thing that makes the game appealing is that the 'bowls' aren't round, but are slightly flattened on one side and slightly more flattened on the other side. The less flattened side is heavier, so when rolled, the bowls roll straight most of the way, but then quickly curve toward the target in the last few feet.
As a result, the winner isn't the one who throws the hardest, but the one who throws with just the right force, and at just the right angle. It is very strategic, and a game that just about anyone can play. If you decide to give it a try, watch out. There are some little old ladies that'll knock your socks off!

Here's the hidden gem entry from our Clue Me! map.
