Weekly Gem #209 Uplifting Art

Published 8/31/2019

Location: This weekly gem is located in Freak Alley, Boise, ID (see the Clue Me! Map). The walls in Freak Alley are completely covered with some very creative works of art. Well, make that 99.5% covered, because painting over the signs is not allowed.

Mostly this isn't a problem. But paintings that are permanently adhered next to a 'you can't be here' sign are in a bit of a pickle. And after plenty of thought, these two came up with unique solutions to deal with the threatening sign. The pig decided to strap on a balloon, and be in a perpetual state of departure. After all, you can't be towed if you're in the process of leaving. The fish, meanwhile, have simply chosen to glare! They're certainly unhappy, although it's not clear if they're upset at the sign, or because they don't have balloons of their own.

Both strategies seem to be working, because at last check, neither pig nor fish have been towed.

And, all of this leaves the big question unasked. How can such a small balloon lift such a weighty pig?

Many more questions such as this can be found in Freak Alley, one of the most engaging public art galleries you'll find.

Description

A porcine and pisces section of Freak Alley

Why It's Interesting

I like how the artists took a somewhat in-your-face sign, and surrounded it with a fairly amiable pig, who just goes with the flow, and a few fish that look like they'd love to park somewhere else, if only they could find a way.
