Weekly Gem #221, Helping each other to win the human race
Location: This Weekly Gem is the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation's Discovery Center, located at 5th Ave. and Harrison St., in downtown Seattle, WA (see the Clue Me! Map).
"Every person deserves the chance to live a healthy, productive life."
Now that’s a mission statement!
The Discovery Center heartens us to make our communities, and the world(!), a better place for everybody. If you want inspiration, this is a great place to start.
In the Discovery Center, you'll interact with exhibits about the Foundation, and how it is reducing inequities related to poverty, health and education for people all over the world. They recognize that pooling resources with other organizations allows them to tackle these daunting problems, and to make progress. Working together, there is hope!
As you continue into the Discovery Center you will see that all the exhibits are about people who have made incredible contributions. They are presented in a way that reminds us that all of us can make a difference. The key words there are "all of us." Before you know it, you find yourself thinking about things little-old-you can do. You alone, or pooling your resources with others.
By the time you leave the Discovery Center, you will have come to the old conclusion that you and all of humanity are participants in the human race (pun intended.) And while everybody is racing along, holding out your hand to a less fortunate person is a satisfying, kind, and heart-healthy thing to do.
Here's the hidden gem entry from our Clue Me! map.
We're all in this together.
