Weekly Gem #113 Inspiring peace

Published 4/8/2017

Location:   This 'hidden gem' is located on Q Street, NW, just across from the Indian Embassy in Washington, DC (see the Clue Me! Map). Many memorials are awe-inspiring because they are larger than life. This memorial is awe-inspiring because Mahatma Gandhi is standing right in front of you, and you can see that he was just a guy with a bamboo walking stick. Even so, he changed the world. And if he could do it (he would say), we can too.

Of course, Gandhi's main 'weapon' was telling the hard truth in ways that built people up rather than tearing them down.

"Be the change that you wish to see in the world."

"And eye for an eye will only make the whole world blind."

"First they ignore you, then they ridicule you, then they fight you, and then you win."

"There are only two days in the year when we cannot do anything, yesterday, and tomorrow."

"I object to violence because when it appears to do good, the good is only temporary; the evil it does is permanent."

Here's the hidden gem entry from our Clue Me! map.
