Weekly Gem #276, The Mariana UFO Incident

Published 8/6/2022

Location: This hidden gem is above Centene Stadium in Great Falls, MT (see the Clue Me! Map).  Site of the “Mariana UFO Incident” in 1950.

Nick Mariana, the general manager of the Great Falls Electrics Minor League baseball team, was inspecting the baseball field before a game and saw two bright objects, spinning and flying overhead. He dashed to his car, grabbed his 16 mm movie camera and began filming, being one of the first people to get film footage of an unidentified flying object!

Malmstrom Air Force Base is less than four miles away, and the sighting was investigated by the U.S. Air Force among many others. After studying the footage, the two lights in question were judged to be ... "unidentifiable."

You can see footage of the pair of UFOs moving as if in formation, and Nick explaining what he saw, via Wikimedia Commons.

Nick was not alone … hundreds of other UFO sightings have been reported in Great Falls, making it one of the most popular places for aliens to visitin North America.

Great Falls has embraced this notoriety by renaming its baseball team, now called the Voyagers, and making the mascot an alien, called "Orbit."
